Lakefront Residence
This single-family residential compound is built on a three-acre lake front site. The house is one story with numerous porches, and auxiliary structures. The house is stucco with cast stone trim and architectural accents and terracotta tile roof.
The requirements of the client were that the site be developed as not only a home for his wife and himself, but that it be a place of enjoyment and refuge for their many friends and extended family. The house and main facilities were to be built on one level with easy access for visitors to all of the site’s amenities. The home was to be in a Mediterranean style with authentic details and accents.
The solution involved the use of retaining walls, terraces, and other site development devices to bring about ease of perception and movement on the large sloping lot. The natural drama is immediately understood from the entrance through the living room window wall across the pool to the lake beyond. The approach side of the house is devoted to a large motor court to accommodate the numerous visitors and guests and to produce a visual forecourt. The house opens on to a series of outdoor rooms, porches, and terraces, which connect the house to the pool and bathhouse, and visually to the lake.
